Description
Blackman moved to Avonsleigh in 1954 with his wife and poet Barbara Patterson Blackman. They stayed for six months and his moonlight paintings were inspired by his late-night walks home from town.
The way it haunted him threw him back to his childhood and fears of the dark, leading to his most famous art series – the School Girls, and then ‘Alice in Wonderland’ series where fantasy triumphed over fear.
