Description
This painting was from a time in Emanuel’s life reflecting on the impending Suez conflicts in 1955, given his mother was Italian-Egyptian and his father was Greek-Egyptian, deciding to flee Egypt and start a new life in Australia.
His emotional response to leaving his culture resulted in a series of works using metals then scoring, blowtorching , scratching with funeral type icons with Greek symbolism for the lives lost in the conflict.
